Ronald Brooks Kitaj (October 29, 1932 – October 21, 2007) was an American artist with Jewish roots who spent much of his life in England.
Intensely experimental and inquisitive, American-born painter and printmaker R. B. Kitaj worked mainly in England during a long career as a prominent figure of the Pop art movement. Unlike most Pop artists, Kitaj was relatively uninterested in popular culture and instead focused on erudite visual and literary sources. In his paintings and prints, he developed a pictorial language of ambiguity, combining text, collage, and figurative elements to create non-linear narratives.
